that’s the phrase one hears so often this time of year. it’s august, and the weather is warm, humid, sunny, and occasionally rainy. each game played in baseball holds a little more weight as the teams fight for the league pennant. i’ve been enjoying baseball season this year, once again! it’s been fun following three teams! the mariners, tigers, and cubs. i’m still a mariners fan. in fact, when i was younger, i didn’t hang posters of hot movie stars on my walls, but posters of mariners players! living here in michigan has turned me into a tigers fan. almost every game they have played this season has been on tv. i love it! and, the cubs. well, people say once you are a cubs fan, you never stop; they are my national league team, as i say.
i’ve been lucky enough to attend a couple major league games this season. when we were in seattle, ty and i took my parents to safeco field to see the mariners play the tigers! we had a blast :) ty and i wore our tigers shirts. i don’t think i’ve ever received so much attention at a baseball game! (the mariners won, by the way). we came home with a couple mariners t-shirts…the free give away that night! the other game we attended was a chicago white sox game. i know, i know. i’m a cubs fan, so what am i doing at a white sox game? well, one of my goals in life (not an important one, but a fun one) is to see a game at every major league ball park. we had a chance to catch a white sox game in may, so we went! i had been to the old comisky park, so it was great to see the remodeled comisky park. one of these days i should make an official check list and see how i am doing!
one sad thing about the “dog days of summer” is that it means my vacation is winding down. i have a list of so many things that i still want to do, a list of things i should do, and the going back to school list. hmmm, maybe my problem is too many lists! :0 but, seriously…it has been a wonderful summer, and i don’t want it to end. so, the challenge now is to savor every moment that is left: walks along the pier and around the neighborhood, ice cream at captain sundae, the smell of freshly mowed grass, bike rides, campfires and s’mores with friends and family in our backyard, a few quiet hours reading a good book, a little more scrapbooking, and talks with friends.
i’m so very thankful for the relaxation that summer brings. it is such a refresher as i prepare for another busy school year.
